I'll never forget meeting Caitlin & Susie for the first time after getting their initial inquiry email. We met for drinks and I liked them instantly - they were absolutely magnetic, open and honest, downright hilarious and so clearly, deeply connected to each other. Within minutes we were laughing and sharing comically personal information. Nearly 45 of those minutes passed before we had even spoken about weddings or wedding planning or wedding photography. And by the end of the night we were tucked away at a table with empty bottles all around, my boyfriend had come to join us at their insistence, and anyone who saw us would've thought that four longtime friends were getting together and having a ball. They booked me to photograph their wedding that very night and over the months that passed, over bottomless brunches and family-style dinners and a particularly eventful Halloween night out, there wasn't a single moment that Caitlin & Susie made me feel like their wedding vendor. A photographer, yes. An artist, yes. A friend, absolutely. On their wedding day, I was all of those things.
Caitlin & Susie told me about their budget and their plans to transform their lovely, welcoming church and it's simple cafeteria into the wedding venue they'd dreamed of but couldn't afford. When I saw the finished cafeteria for the first time, I was shocked to feel tears well up in my eyes, something that's rare for me, despite my line of work. It was stunning, and such a beautiful reflection of them as a couple and all that they'd been through together to get to that point.
To Caitlin & Susie - congratulations, my dear beautiful friends, and thank you from the bottom of my heart.
